It's essential to understand the various costs associated with this process to make informed decisions. Here is a short explanation of each of the cost associated with importing into Canada
Duties:
Duties refer to the taxes imposed by the Canadian government on imported goods. These duties are typically calculated based on the classification and value of the item being imported. The amount of the duties to be paid is will vary depending on the product category, price and country of manufacture. There are some products that are exempt from paying duties like baby clothing made in anywhere. There are some products that are exempt from paying duties if they were made in a CUSMA country (Canada, United States or Mexico). Find more information here.
Taxes:
In addition to duties, imported goods are subject to taxes imposed by the Canadian government. These taxes, such as Goods and Services Tax (GST) or Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), are applied based on the value of the imported item. You can calculate your approximated taxes here.
Brokerage:
Brokerage fees are incurred when a customs broker facilitates the clearance of imported goods through Canadian customs. These fees cover the services provided by the broker to ensure compliance with import regulations and smooth customs clearance. As part of our service, brokerage fees are included in the overall costs associated with importing goods into Canada.
